IPL/Photorejuvenation

Photo Rejuvenation Therapy, also known as a Photo Facial, is a complexion blending procedure performed with Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology. At the Center for Cosmetic and Clinical Dermatology, we treat patients with Lumenis M22 Skin Rejuvenation system. IPL is highly effective for the treatment of skin conditions associated with aging, an active life-style and sun damage. The Lumenis platform allows your physician to precisely treat age and sun spots, redness, small facial veins, and several other types of skin blemishes. Treatment will be tailored to match your skin’s condition and your desired results. After the IPL procedure, your skin will look smoother, more vibrant and more youthful in appearance.

The light energy delivered by IPL will gently heat the upper layers of your skin. The photo-thermal energy that is created will stimulate collagen production, blend and remove unwanted pigmentation, and fade or eliminate many of the fine blood vessels that cause redness in the skin. IPL technology can also treat rosacea. A series of treatments can significantly improve the redness, breakouts, and flushing associated with this condition.

IPL is a non-invasive and gentle procedure with minimal discomfort and minimal downtime. In most cases you will be able to return to work, apply makeup, and resume most of your activities right away. Any area of your body can be treated. However, the most commonly treated areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of sun light such as face, neck, back of the hands, chest and shoulders. IPL treatment produce the best results when done in a series of 3 to 5 treatments at 3 to 4 week intervals. You may benefit from additional treatments depending on the severity of your condition

After the procedure, you may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. With pigmented lesions, you will see a darkening of the treated areas followed by fading and flaking off at a later stage. Your treated skin will feel smoother, fine lines and pores will be less noticeable and sunspots, uneven pigmentation, and redness will fade. Results depend on your condition, the number of treatments, and the area treated. Your physician will provide you with complete information about the post treatment care and results. Diligent use of sunscreen is necessary both before and after treatment.
